What Conditions Are Shaping What We See?
This is the central question of The Conditions Lens™, developed by Thomas Mountney.
The Conditions Lens™ begins from an ecological principle of becoming:
All living beings become within conditions.
The question asks us to pause before we blame, label, measure or correct, and to look more widely at what may be shaping what we see.
Conditions may be emotional, relational, material, environmental, temporal, social, institutional, technological or ecological.
A child does not become in isolation.
An adult does not struggle in isolation.
A family does not live outside pressure, relationship or place.
An ecosystem does not recover without the conditions that allow life to return.
Human-made systems such as policy, institutions and technology also matter where they shape the conditions within which people and other living beings act and become.
Seeing conditions does not remove agency or responsibility. Nor does the Lens ask us to explain forever.
The purpose is to understand enough to make a more responsible next move, act where change is possible, and notice what follows.
The question therefore opens into others:
Who has the power to shape these conditions?
What can be changed?
Where can care enter the web?
Nothing becomes alone.
